Duo Robs Buffalo Grove Man With Gun, Knife During Pot Meetup: Police
An 18-year-old was arrested in connection with the Thursday night incident in Long Grove. Police said are trying to identify his accomplice.

LONG GROVE, IL — A meetup to smoke cannabis resulted in an armed robbery of a Buffalo Grove man Thursday night along a Long Grove walking path, according to police. Justin Sutherland, 18, of the 4400 block of Pebble Creek Lane, Long Grove, is accused of felony armed robbery and aggravated robbery after brandishing a knife, and was arrested. Police said he was due in court Friday morning.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is attempting to identify Sutherland's accomplice, a person between the ages of 16 and 18, who pulled out a gun during the robbery.
According to police, deputies were dispatched to the area of Stonehaven Drive and Heathmoor Court at around 8:45 p.m. Thursday, for an unknown problem. As they arrived, they were informed by LCSO 911 operators that a 19-year-old Buffalo Grove man was robbed and being chased by two offenders.

Police said they arrived quickly and located the victim. The victim initially said he was robbed on the walking path in the subdivision as he was walking to meet with some friends. Following further questioning, the victim admitted he was going to meet two individuals to smoke cannabis, according to police. When he met with them, he was robbed by the people he was meeting.
Shortly after meeting up, Sutherland brandished a knife and demanded the victim’s property. The other person with Sutherland brandished a firearm. Police said Sutherland went through the victim’s pockets and stole various items. The victim was able to push away from Sutherland and the other offender to flee on foot.

Police made contact with Sutherland at his residence and recovered the victim’s stolen property, along with the knife and gun used in the attack. The gun was a metal BB gun, which looked like a real firearm.
