A Jewish Musical Celebration: Season of Joy

 

    Congregation Beth Judea proudly presents A JEWISH MUSICAL CELEBRATION -- "SEASON OF JOY" (Mi Shenichnas Adar) on Saturday, February 5 beginning at 6:30 PM at the synagogue.  The Jewish year 5771 is a leap year in the Hebrew calendar, and there is a second month of Adar, which increases Jewish joy and rejoicing.

    Beth Judea will be welcoming the joyous months of Adar with a special musical concert.  The program will feature Ilana Axel, cantorial soloist at Congregation Beth Tikvah in Hoffman Estates; Nancy Landsman, cantorial soloist at Am Shalom in Glencoe; Hazzan Arnold Schultz, cantor emeritus at Congregation Beth Am in Buffalo Grove; and Hazzan Roger Weisberg, cantor at Congregation Beth Judea in Long Grove. Diana Lawrence will be providing piano/keyboard accompaniment.  The Beth Judea children's choir, the Meshorerim, under the direction of Deborah Shub, with the assistance of guitarist Jordan Sachs will also be performing.  The Meshorerim members who will be performing are: Charlie, Lauren and Molly Appel; Scott Schwerdin, Maya Shub; Andy Siegel; and Ryan Sussman.

    Musically, the program will include a variety of styles...from Israeli, Yiddish, Sefardic and Ladino to Cantorial Classics and modern synagogue melodies, with a few favorite Broadway tunes thrown in.

 

    The evening will proceed as follows:

        6:30 - 7:15 PM:  Social hour.  Hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and soft drinks;  silent auction bidding and ticket purchase of 50/50 raffle.

        7:30 - 8:15 PM:  Entertainment.

        8:15 - 8:45 PM:  Intermission.

        8:45 - 9:30 PM:  Entertainment.

        9:30 - 10:00 PM:Dessert served.  Announcement of auction and raffle winners.
