A group of female authors from publisher Simon & Schuster will head a panel discussion about real-life concerns and how they inform the creation of fiction. "Women Writers on Women's Issues: Author Panel & Afternoon Tea" will take place at the Arboretum Club, 401 Half Day Rd., Buffalo Grove, Ill., from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011. The event is free and open to the public.
The afternoon features four novelists, including popular YA author Ellen Hopkins ("Triangles," her first adult novel, which is written in verse) on the topic of midlife crisis; Amy Hatvany ("Best Kept Secret") on alcoholism; Lisa Tucker ("Winters in Bloom") on parenting; and Sarah Pekkanen ("Skipping a Beat") on marriage.
A variety of door prizes and other giveaways include advance reader's copies of other Simon & Schuster titles, a group conference call with one of the authors for your book club or writer's group, and other items. Only those who register in advance are eligible for the drawings.
Host Vernon Area Public Library and sponsor Simon & Schuster will have resources on hand for book clubs interested in these and other popular titles for discussion. Tea service and light refreshments are included with registration and round out the afternoon.
