Author Jonathan Evison will speak and read from his newest book, “West of Here,” at a free public book talk and signing at the Vernon Area Public Library at 2 pm on March 5.
In pre-release reviews, “West of Here” was named the #1 pick for February on the “Indie Next List” compiled by independent booksellers. The title also earned starred reviews from Booklist, Library Journal and Publishers Weekly trade publications.
“West of Here” follows the past and present residents of a fictional town on Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula. The novel develops as a kind of conversation between two epochs—the late 1800s and contemporary times—the earlier rushing blindly toward the future, and the other struggling to undo the damage of the past. It is an exposition on the effects of time, on how the actions of one generation echo in the lives of those that follow, and the enduring struggle of good people to be just and right.
The afternoon’s author series event will include a presentation and reading, followed by book signing. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Lake Forest Book Store.
The event is free, but seating is limited. Registration is recommended. Register in person at the Adult Services Desk in the library, by telephone at 847-634-3650 or online at http://calendar.vapld.info/eventsignup.asp?ID=5775.
