Young Adult fiction author Ellen Hopkins is making one Midwest stop on her current book tour, and it’s in Chicago’s northern suburbs. Ms. Hopkins will speak at a free public event at the Stevenson High School West Auditorium in Lincolnshire, Ill., at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2011. The event will be followed by an author reception and book signing in Stevenson’s newly renovated Information and Learning Center.
Ellen Hopkins holds the unique distinction of being the "most challenged author of 2010," according to the American Library Association. Her Young Adult novels deal with a variety of difficult subjects that are part of 21st century life for teens.
Her writing is informed by her own experience. Her first YA novel, "Crank," was inspired by her daughter’s addiction to crystal meth. Subsequent works have incorporated stories from the thousands of young people she hears from in writing and in person. Hopkins spends more than 100 days each year on tour, visiting schools and libraries, book festivals and other events. Her books and presentations carry a strong message about personal responsibility and the far-reaching consequences of the paths we follow.

Her most recent title, "Perfect," is a companion to bestseller "Impulse." It deals four high-school seniors who are struggling with peer, parentla, and self-imposed pressure to achieve "perfection": beauty, brains, athletic achievement, or wealth. Each must decide how far they will go, what they are willing to sacrifice to be "perfect."
Books will be available for purchase and signing at the evening event, courtesy of Lake Forest Book Store. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all, but seating is limited to 400 and registration is required.
