Ex-School PTO President Charged With Stealing $10K: Buffalo Grove PD
Megan Robin, of Buffalo Grove, oversaw management of PTO funds at Prairie Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL —Following a two-month investigation, a former president of the Prairie Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization is being charged with felony theft after allegedly stealing funds from the organization. Megan Robin, 43, of the 1300 block of Larchmont Drive, Buffalo Grove, was arrested Wednesday, according to police.
Robin was released following her arrest and is due back in court Nov. 29.
Police said they were contacted by executive board members of the Kildeer Countryside Community Consolidated School District 96 PTO in September after they discovered improper use of the organization's assets. In her role as president, Robin oversaw management of the assets during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Officials discovered more $10,000 of those funds were improperly used during that time.

During the subsequent investigation, police discovered Robin failed to make appropriate deposits of funds earned from fundraising sales and auctions. They also said Robin reportedly made several unauthorized withdrawals from the organization’s bank account and used the PTO's debit card for personal uses.
"We are shocked and saddened that any parent volunteer would take advantage of their position to divert funds from their intended purpose for personal benefit," the D96 PTO Coordinating Council said in a statement. "We have cooperated fully with the Buffalo Grove Police in their investigation and plan to pursue every legal option to assure full restitution of the funds to be properly used to benefit the Prairie School community."
