Five Ways to Get Creative With Signage Messaging

Tips to make your signage more creative and memorable.

Have you ever heard about a sale 10 days after it’s passed? It’s a store you love to go to and you know you’ve driven by multiple times in the last two weeks, but you never saw any sale signs. Or, maybe a business you hadn’t visited yet closed their doors permanently before you were even aware they had opened, only to find out they had been open for over a year. What happened? In most cases, it’s failed advertising. You don’t have to have a huge budget to make a big impact on your marketing or expense goals. In fact, your business can use the most basic of signage to garner the greatest results.

So, how can you level up your signage? Let’s take a look!

Don’t stick with the usual suspects on the color spectrum for your advertising – blacks, grays, whites, blues. There are multiple psychological studies on how colors affect marketing and its emotional impact on consumers. Play with pastels, neons and neutrals: mix them up and use them together. Color draws the eye, so make your signage eye-catching.

Construct characters!

Nothing helps identify a business more than creating a logo or character. Consider the Toys-R-Us giraffe, Frosted Flakes’ Tony the Tiger or the Michelin Man. These businesses use their characters not only to help identify themselves, but to stand out from the rest. They give a face to their brand.

Funky phrases!

Some of the most memorable signs use phrases that make us laugh and grab our attention. Don’t be afraid to be funny. For instance, a beach that has signs saying, “Sandals Only – Strictly Enforced – No Pants Allowed” or a pub sign that says, “Soup of the Day: Whiskey.” Get creative. If it’s intriguing, people are more inclined to stop.

Unique signage!

If you’re a company who has used only banners in the past, try using standing signage. If you’ve only ever used standing signs, try changeable letter signage. And, if you’ve only ever used fabric signage, try going digital. Mix up your advertising methods and try something new. You may be surprised by the outcome.

A little bit of everything!

If you’re super adventurous, try a little bit of everything. Use a digital sign with bright colors and a quirky character. Or maybe, use a canvas with bright lettering and inspiring phrases. Whatever you choose, make it different and make it eye-catching. The more you stand out the more you’re noticed.

There’s signage for everyone, and everything is 100% customizable and made to order. So, don’t be afraid to get creative!
