Golf Outing Gives Boost To BG High Athletics

The Buffalo Grove High School Booster Club's golf outing benefited Bison athletes.

Kathy Janca summed it up nicely as she and Jillian Melinyshyn secured their golf clubs on the rear of a cart at the on Friday morning.

The two women were among 78 golfers who came out for the 14th annual Bison Booster Club Golf Outing.

“We’re here to support the Boosters,” Janca said, “and to enjoy a lovely afternoon in the sun.”

And a lovely afternoon it was, as the golfers made their way around the sun-drenched course, hit the clubhouse for an after-party and took part in a silent auction, all to raise money for the athletic department.

Attendance was up from last year, when only 52 turned out, event co-Chairs Pete and Loren Allen said.

They attributed the increase to “hard work by the co-chairs,” joked Pete, as well as better participation from the high school staff, and a later date for the event.

“We beat the bushes early,” he said.

Money raised through the outing helps the Boosters with ongoing projects, like new equipment for high school athletes and improved facilities.

The outing featured several competitions for golfers. Winners included: Ladies’ Longest Drive, Jillian Melinyshyn; Ladies Closest to the Pin, Jillian Melinyshyn; Men’s Longest Drive, Nate Bolhous; Men’s Closest to the Pin, Phil Anzelmo; Men’s Closest to the Pin, Rich Wolf; Men’s Longest Putt, Matt Myers; Lowest Team Score, Matt Myers, Steve Kolodziej, Nate Bolhous and Brad Rathe (they scored 59 on the 72-par course).

The golf outing is one of three major fundraisers the organization sponsors; the other two are a and a bowling event.
