Learn to Defend against Yourself against an Attack with a Weapon!

Coming up on Friday May 30, 2014, I will be teaching a crash course in some basic defenses against club, knife and gun attacks at Spider Gym MMA in Wheeling, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

While there is no question that the best defense against a weapon is distance (if you can run, do it), that may not always be an option.  If you have to defend family or friends who can't get away, are somewhere you can't easily escape from, or are simply unable to run due to an injury or a physical impairment, then fighting may be your only option.

The course is not designed to teach you to fight in the usual sense, instead it is designed to teach you about the weapons and how they are dangerous, to avoid getting injured by the weapon, inflicting serious damage on your attacker, and then leaving the situation as quickly as you can.

The class is only 1.5 hours long and will discuss three different weapon-based attacks, so clearly it will not be possible to go into a lot of detail in such a short period of time.  However, this brief introduction will give you some concepts to think about, as well as give you the opportunity to consider whether you might want to take additional classes to practice and better understand the techniques.

If you decide that learning defenses against weapons-based attacks is for you, then you should find a martial art or style of reality based self-defense which includes these defenses as part of their regular curriculum.
