Vernon Area Library delivered a batch of face shield headbands to a hospital collection this week. The headbands were manufactured on the library's 3D printer. They will be paired with clear plastic to create face shields for use at area medical facilities.

The design and materials allow hospital staff to wash and reuse this face shield, reducing demand for a finite supply of disposable personal protective equipment.

Many area libraries are contributing to this effort, which is being coordinated by the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) and Amita Health.
