'Long Line' At Post Office Leads To Fight Between 2 Men: Blotter

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

An Elmwood Drive resident reported at 4:38 p.m. Feb. 1, an unknown person took over her computer. She had received an email from Norton Antivirus that said she is owed a refund. She called the number on the email and spoke with someone. That person logged into her BMO Harris checking account, moved $8,000 from her savings account into checking. She was then told to go to the bank and wire $7,000 to an account in Thailand. The bank told her it was a fraud attempt and requested a police report. No money was lost.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A resident in the 190 block of Old Oak Drive reported at 4:39 p.m. Feb. 1, their chuch van had been vandalized along with Amazon packages. The resident said the van has been vandalized frequently since November 2021. They had installed a camera system, but it didn't pick up the latest incident.

DECEPTION

A Lake Cook Road resident reported at 1:21 p.m. Feb. 2, they had purchased multiple gift cards from Wal-Mart and Target from whom they believed was their boss following an email exchange. The "boss," currently out of the country, was asking employees to purchase $5,600 in gift cards. The resident realized they had made a mistake after purchasing the cards with their personal money, turning the card numbers over to the "boss," and speaking via phone.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee at T-Mobile, 800 block of Milwaukee Avenue, called police at 11:59 a.m. Feb. 3, to report after two phones were stolen from the store. According to the employee, a man removed the two display phones by cutting the security cables, left the store and drove south on Milwaukee Avenue in a black Hyundai sedan.

BATTERY

  • An employee of Wolfy's Barber Shop, 0-100 block of N. Buffalo Grove Road, reported at 2:51 p.m. Feb. 4, a strong-arm robbery. The employee got into a struggle with an unknown man, who was trying to steal cash from the register, and then fled northbound on Buffalo Grove Road.
  • Police were called at 2:49 p.m. Feb. 5, to the U.S. Post Office, 200 block of N. Buffalo Grove Road, for a fight between two men. Upon arrival, one of the men had left, but the other said the fight occurred because the man that left had been aggravated due to the long line. He started to exchange words, then knocked packages out of the man's hands while stating they want to fight. The unknown man punched him in the back of the head and ran out the front doors.
