'Long Recovery Ahead' For Teen Injured In Fatal Wheeling Car Crash

WHEELING, IL — As funeral services for two of the four Buffalo Grove students killed in last week's fatal car crash in Wheeling were held Tuesday, a GoFundMe for a survivor is raising money for medical expenses.

Jaime Davila has been in ICU and "has a long recovery ahead," according to his older sister, Brenda, who started the campaign. As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe has raised more than $24,000 of a $30,000 goal.

"This has been really hard for our family, the families involved, and foremost our community as a whole," Brenda Davila said.

According to Davila, the money raised from the GoFundMe will help with medical expenses and any other bills her parents may have.

"We appreciate everyone that has reached out and continues to offer their help," Brenda Davila said.

Four Buffalo Grove High School students were killed in a multi-car crash May 16. Richard De Ita, 18, of Wheeling, Kevin R. Hernandez-Teran, 17, of Wheeling, Ricky Barcenas, 17, of Arlington Heights, and Jesus Rodriguez, 16, of Wheeling, all succumbed to their injuries from the crash.

Funerals for Hernandez-Teran and De Ita were held Tuesday in Wheeling and Des Plaines respectively.
