Suburban Man Charged In 2 Date Rapes In Same Month

The Northbrook man is accused of sexually assaulting a Buffalo Grove woman he met through a dating app and a Palatine woman he met at a bar.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — A Northbrook man accused of sexually assaulting a Buffalo Grove woman he met through a dating app was also charged last year in another suburban date rape case, authorities confirmed Thursday. Anthony N. Lamonica, 40, was arrested on Jan. 11 for sexually assaulting the Buffalo Grove woman. That sexual assault occurred in April 2018 -- the same month that Lamonica also allegedly sexually assaulted a Palatine woman he met about a year earlier at a Libertyville bar.

Lamonica has been released from jail after he posted the required $50,000 of his $500,000 bail in the Buffalo Grove case, authorities said.

Local police arrested him on Jan. 11 following an eight-month investigation into sex assault allegations brought by the Buffalo Grove woman. The woman, who is in her 30s, told police she first met Lamonica through a dating app in 2017 and reconnected with him around the time of the alleged assault, authorities said.

The two went out to dinner and then returned to the woman's home in Buffalo Grove where the alleged assault occurred, according to police. Authorities filed a warrant for Lamonica's arrest on Jan. 8, and he turned himself in three days later. He is charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, both Class X felonies.

The Buffalo Grove charges come eight months after similar charges were filed following an investigation by the Palatine Police Department. In that case, he is accused of sexually assaulting a Palatine woman he met around a year earlier at a Libertyville bar.

He set up a date with the woman on April 6, 2018. As the date was winding down, the woman said she needed to pick up her dog from a neighbor, and Lamonica accompanied the woman to her home, according to the Daily Herald.

While there, he allegedly began touching her, but she told him she didn't want to have sex, the report added. Prosecutors claim Lamonica then allegedly pinned her to her bed, and he is accused of sexually assaulting her, the report stated.

The woman, who told Lamonica to leave her home, texted her neighbor before going to a health clinic to have a rape kit administered, the report added.

Buffalo Grove police are not aware of any other investigations by police agencies into Lamonica.
