New Buffalo Grove Police Deputy Chief Sworn In

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Longtime Buffalo Grove police officer Brian Spolar was sworn in as deputy chief at Tuesday night's Village Board meeting.

Spolar began his career with the BGPD in 1996 as a community service officer before becoming a police officer later that year. He replaces Michael Szos as deputy chief, who retired earlier this month.

"I'm honored to serve as Buffalo Grove’s new Deputy Chief of Administration," Spolar said. "This department has given me so much over the years, and I look forward to working with our leadership team to enhance our exemplary public safety services."

Other members of the police department were also be recognized with awards at the meeting, including the presentation of a special commendation for Officer David Wojs and Employee of the Year for Sergeant Jaime Verduzco.

"It’s an exciting day for BG," Police Chief Brian Budds said. "I'm so proud to have the opportunity to promote Lieutenant Spolar to Deputy Chief as well as recognize the outstanding achievements of Officer Wojs and Sergeant Verduzco. Congratulations to all."
