Over 2 Dozen Car Burglaries Reported In Buffalo Grove Since April
Police officials are urging residents to lock their cars.

Following a rash of burglaries to motor vehicles, local police are urging Buffalo Grove residents to lock their cars. Since April, the Buffalo Grove Police Department has taken more than two dozen reports of items being stolen from inside vehicles. The vast majority of the vehicle have been unlocked when they were burglarized, according to a news release from the police department.
“It is unfortunate to continually receive these types of calls because burglary to vehicles is a highly preventable crime. We urge everyone to do all they can to avoid becoming a victim," said Deputy Chief Michael Szos. "This includes locking vehicles anytime it is not in use, making sure all windows are closed, and removing valuables from sight.”
Buffalo Grove is considered to be a safe community, and police understand that may cause complacency.

“Due to Buffalo Grove’s consistent placement in safest community rankings, residents may have a false sense of security believing crime does not happen here,” Szos said. “Unfortunately, thieves read these articles as well, and target communities whose residents may not be as vigilant about protecting their property.”
Should a vehicle be broken into, police request residents call 911 immediately, prior to going through the car. This assists evidence technicians in the event that something of evidentiary value is left behind.
