Parks And Public Services Day Planned For May 20 In Buffalo Grove

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Local residents looking for a fun day, while also supporting local parks and public works, can make their way to Mike Rylko Community Park on Saturday, May 20. The Village of Buffalo Grove and Buffalo Grove Park District are teaming up to host Parks and Public Services Day.

Organizers are encouraging the public to attend the family-friendly event which celebrates Kids to Park Day and kicks off National Public Works Week 2023.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the park’s parking lot at 951 McHenry Road, which is adjacent to the Spray 'N Play. Live demonstrations will occur at 11 a.m., noon. and 1 p.m. Demonstrations and activities will include:

  • Touch-a-Truck.
  • Stamp your initials in concrete.
  • Snowplow demonstration.
  • Parks vs. Public Works chainsaw competition.
  • Water main, hydrant and vehicle demonstrations.
  • Specialized garbage truck demonstration.
  • Free custard from Culver’s.

According to a news release regarding the event, attendees will have a chance to win prizes for participating. Prizes include tickets to the 2023 Buffalo Grove Days carnival, Spray ‘N Play and pool passes, four hours of play at WJ Golf, four-hour pass to the Golf Dome, tickets for an upcoming event at the Community Arts Center and a customized street sign with winner’s name.

"Join us in celebrating these professionals and all they do that makes life better for all of us."
