Passenger Injures Skull After Car Strikes Tree In Long Grove: Police

Alcohol and speed may have been factors in the single-car crash late Sunday night, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

LONG GROVE, IL — A 19-year-old Palatine resident sustained critical injuries after the car he was driving in drove into a tree and utility pole late Sunday night in Long Grove, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office. Police believe alcohol and speed may have been factors in the crash.

The injured teenager was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with a skull fracture, among other injuries

At around 11 p.m., police responded to Schaffer Road, north of Lake Cook Road, for reports of a crash. A preliminary investigation shows that a 22-year-old Rolling Meadows man was driving his Acura ILX northbound on Schaeffer Road when he drove off the roadway on the east side of the road for unknown reasons. This caused the car to strike the tree and utility pole.

The driver was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers, both 20-year-old men, were uninjured, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
