Prairie Elementary Art Teacher Receives National Accolade

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Christopher Morris takes a lot of pride in what he does for a living. For this and more, the Prairie Elementary School art instructor was recently honored as a recipient of Artsonia's 2020 Art Education Leadership Award. The award lauds pioneers in the art education community who continuously inspire their peers and engage students.

“It is an honor to be recognized as a leader in arts education,” Morris said. “There are so many art teachers and colleagues that inspire me. It is nice to know that I inspire others too.”

According to Artsonia, Morris was selected for the honor by his peers and Artsonia among thousands of instructors. Morris was one of just 15 national winners of this award.

"When looking at Christopher’s online gallery on Artsonia it is clear that his students are getting a high-quality art education. He introduces them to a large variety of mediums, techniques and art history," said Jim Meyers, CEO of Artsonia. "Christopher uses his lessons to encourage creativity and problem solving, while developing students’ technical skills. His community is lucky to have him as an art educator."

"

Morris has been teaching in the Kildeer Countryside School District for 22 years as an art instructor.

"Art instructors are crucial to have in schools because they provide students with tools they will need in their adult life," Meyers said. "They encourage students to experiment, problem solve, innovate and learn about themselves. These skills are essential for future success."
