Public Invited to Relay for Life of Mt. Prospect/Wheeling

The 2014 American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Mt. Prospect/Wheeling will take place May 16 and May 17 in the Prospect High School stadium. The American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser, Relay for Life will run from 6 p.m. Friday, May 16, to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 17. Throughout the event, teams will walk laps around the Prospect track. Each team is encouraged to have some members walking at all times (hence the "relay" idea). There are many events throughout the night and early morning, including Opening Ceremonies, survivor laps, survivor dinner, entertainment, raffle, Luminaria Ceremony, games and contests, onsite fundraisers, etc. Some people stay for a few hours, while others bring tents and sleeping bags and stay all night; the choice is theirs. The ACS uses the funds in the areas of patient services, education, advocacy, and research. While fundraising is a major goal of the event, remembering those who have lost their battle, honoring those who are still fighting cancer, uniting the community in the fight against cancer, and raising awareness of healthy lifestyle choices that can reduce the chances of developing cancer are also goals. For more information regarding the event, go to www.relayforlife.org/wheelingil or contact Kerry Butz at the American Cancer Society (kerry.butz@cancer.org) or Dave Jacobson at Prospect High School (david.jacobson@d214.org).
