Accused Double Murderer Shoots Self In Standoff With Cops
Authorities confirmed 64-year-old Anatoliy Ermak, accused of killing his ex-wife and her husband, shot himself Friday night.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Authorities in Illinois confirmed that the man who shot himself Friday during a confrontation with police in Edina, Minnesota, is the 64-year-old wanted in a double murder in Buffalo Grove.
Anatoliy Ermak of Minnesota is accused of shooting his ex-wife Nataliya Ermak, 55, and her husband, Roman Frid, 69, to death in a condominium parking garage last Sunday. Buffalo Grove police and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force believe Ermak fled in a rented Nissan Versa with Florida license plates.
Around 8 p.m. Friday, Edina police responded to an apartment complex where residents reported seeing the vehicle.

During a reported 90-minute standoff, officers attempted to speak to the driver, later identified as Ermak. Ermak sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. No one else was injured in Friday's shooting.
The Buffalo Grove Police Department along with the Lake County Major Crime Task Force and the Cook County State's Attorney's office obtained a warrant for Ermak's arrest on Wednesday morning, according to a news release from the police department.

Police said Ermak, 64, would be extradited if he were located outside of Buffalo Grove, according to the news release.
"Locating the suspect and providing safety and security to our residents remain the Police Department's priorities, and we will continue to work exhaustively at both," Steven Casstevens, Buffalo Grove Police Department Chief, said earlier this week.

"We're following numerous leads right now to determine where he might be headed," Casstevens said earlier in the week.
Police said the two victims were specifically targeted and that this wasn't a random incident. Casstevens added that authorities haven't recovered a weapon or determined a motive.
"Once again, our condolences go out to families and to the victims," Casstevens said during the press conference.
Buffalo Grove, which was recently named as one of the 10 safest cities in Illinois, has not investigated a murder since 2006.
