Sente to Hold Property Tax Appeal Workshop to Help Wheeling Township Homeowners Receive Relief

VERNON HILLS, Ill. – State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, is hosting a free property tax appeal workshop for Wheeling Township residents on Wednesday, August 2, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Indian Trails Public Library, located at 355 Schoenbeck Rd. in Wheeling.

“Illinois property taxes are the second highest in the nation – creating a major financial hardship for families,” Sente said. “So while I continue to work in Springfield to provide families with real property tax relief in the future, I want to connect resident with resources that will help provide immediate relief.”

Property tax appeal experts from the Cook County Assessor’s Office will be on hand at the event to explain the residential property assessment and appeal process, as well as provide one-on-one assistance for attendees who wish to appeal their property tax assessments. Attendees should bring a copy of their most recent property tax assessment, as well their state ID or driver’s license to the event. Wheeling Township residents are eligible to file property tax assessment appeals from Thursday, July 6 – Monday, August 7.

During the spring legislative session, Sente voted for Senate Bill 484, which if signed into law would freeze residents’ property taxes for four years. In addition, all Illinois homeowners would receive a roughly 15 percent increase on their general homestead exemptions and qualifying seniors, veterans and persons with disabilities would be eligible for even greater relief. In addition, the Sente-backed Senate Bill 3 would make it easier for Illinois’ many units of governments to consolidate and provide better services at a lower cost to the taxpayer.

“Owning a home is part of the American dream,” Sente continued. “But skyrocketing property taxes have transformed owning a home into a nightmare for many families. Whether it’s leading the way on property tax freeze legislation or holding property tax appeal seminars back home, I am committed to providing residents with real property tax relief.”
