Sente Hosting Free Women’s Self-Defense Seminar

In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness month, State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, is teaming up with the Buffalo Grove Police Department to provide a free Women’s Self-Defense class on April 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at 46 Raupp Blvd. in Buffalo Grove.

“This class will offer potentially lifesaving skills that every woman should know,” Sente said. “In addition to equipping participants with the skills necessary to defend against dangerous situations, I am hopeful that this class will help generate awareness and encourage survivors to report these crimes to law enforcement.”

Sente’s Women’s Self-Defense class will feature professionals who will demonstrate defensive maneuvers that can be used to avoid attacks and offer other safety and awareness tips. The class is open to those 18 years and older, and 17 with parental permission. Participants must register in advance, as class size is limited.

“In addition to offering services and hosting events in our community with a focus on public safety, I continually advocate on behalf of issues important to the law enforcement community - such as protecting our youth, limiting access to dangerous narcotics, and keeping our schools safe,” Sente said. “I am committed to supporting crime prevention efforts that crack down on violence that occurs in the home and on the streets.”
