Sente Offers Independence Day Safety Tips

VERNON HILLS, Ill. – With the 4th of July holiday nearly upon us, State Representative Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, is encouraging residents to stay safe this Independence Day by providing these helpful tips.

“The Fourth of July weekend serves as a wonderful opportunity to spend time with family and friends, as well as to celebrate our freedom, but only when done so responsibly,” Sente said. “All too often do people take unnecessary risks or find themselves in dangerous situations that could have been avoided by taking simple precautions.”

Sente is encouraging residents to take small but important steps, such as limiting their time outside during the hottest hours of the day, drinking plenty of water, wearing sunscreen, and leaving fireworks shows to the professionals. In addition, residents are urged to celebrate responsibly, as the Illinois Department of Transportation and many local law enforcement agencies will be cracking down on dangerous drivers through their “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives.

“The holidays are a time to relax and enjoy quality time with those we love, but should not be used as an excuse for making poor decisions,” Sente said. “By taking these simple steps and exercising common-sense, we can help ensure a safe and memorable Independence Day for all Illinoisans.”
