Teen Dies After BMW Strikes Tree In High-Speed Crash: Lake County Sheriff

The 17-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene Monday in Deer Park, according to police.

DEER PARK, IL — A 17-year-old driver died Monday morning following a single-vehicle crash in which they struck a tree after losing control of their BMW. The Lake County Sheriff's Office said the teenager was driving at a high speed when the incident occurred.

The identity of the deceased had not been released at the time of this report.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 10 a.m. on Ela Road, north of Long Grove Road. Deputies responded to reports of a traffic crash with injuries. Upon arrival, police found a BMW sedan that had sustained catastrophic damage.

A preliminary investigation, conducted by the LCSO's traffic crash investigators, has revealed the 17-year-old driver was traveling southbound on Ela Road when the crash occurred. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lake County Coroner's Office responded to the scene following the crash. An autopsy for the deceased driver is currently being scheduled. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
