Walmart Cleared Following Reported Threat Investigation: Wheeling PD

The store, located at 1455 Lake Cook Road, was evacuated Monday night and temporarily closed as officers conducted an investigation.

WHEELING, IL — The Wheeling Police Department said a Walmart that had been evacuated and temporarily closed due to a reported threat Monday night has been cleared following an investigation.

Police said the store at 1455 Lake Cook Road has been authorized to reopen.

"The Wheeling Police Department has concluded its investigation at Walmart. The scene has been cleared and the store has been authorized to reopen," an update on social media reads. "The temporary closure was handled as a precautionary measure in accordance with proper protocols. The Police Department thanks the public and store employees for their cooperation and patience during the investigation."

Wheeling police said the investigation into the origin of the threat remains ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Wheeling Police Department.

In an 8:41 p.m. social media post, Wheeling police said the surrounding area was not in danger, and there was no cause for alarm to nearby residents or businesses.
