Wheeling Approves Funds to Raze Mobile Home Park

About twenty families will be forced to relocate.

An estimated 20 mobile home owners in Wheeling will be forced to relocate after the village recently approved $4 million in federal funds to raze Fox Point mobile home park, the Daily Herald reports.

The village estimates each family will receive $28,000 to relocate, according to the article. The village received funding through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program to clear the mobile home park, which is located along the Des Plaines River on land that is prone to flooding.

“The county recognized the danger of the park being located so close to Des Plaines River, the poor condition of the homes and value of having open space in flood-prone area has deemed the area qualified for assistance,” Wheeling Village Attorney Jim Ferolo said.
