Deadline Extended for Best Landscaping Contest in Buffalo Grove

The Buffalo Grove Arts Commission is holding its 2nd annual Landscaping Contest to determine who has the most attractive yard in the village

The Village of Buffalo Grove’s Arts Commission is holding its 2nd Annual Landscaping Contest.

This contest will determine who has the best looking front yard in the village, as well celebrate the horticultural arts.

Participants can enter the contest by e-mailing their name, address and phone number, along with three property photos to info@vbg.org. Those who enter are asked to include the subject line “Landscaping Contest.”

The contest is limited to residential front and/or side yards, including parkways that are visible from the street in Buffalo Grove. The entry deadline, to include the application and photos has been extended to June 30th.

Judging will be based on the following criteria:
• Attractiveness: The overall look of the landscape area, and its visual appeal. The display of color, use of various species of plants, theme, form, curb appeal and overall maintenance.
• Plant Selection: The use of a variety of plant species.
• Design: Does the design fit the home and surrounding area?
• Uniqueness: How is this landscaping extraordinary and noteworthy of an award?
• Overall Appearance: How did the addition of plants, shrubbery and trees increase the structural appearance.

Irwin Goldman of Crab Apple Terrace, winner of last year’s Landscaping Contest, demonstrated his pride and commitment to the community when he stated:

"When my family moved to this location 23 years ago, we were mindful that our home and landscaping should reflect our pride about living in Buffalo Grove. Even though we enjoy the landscaping beauty for ourselves, our neighbors also enjoy coming by our residence on their daily walks…it gives us such happiness to give back to our friends and fellow Buffalo Grove residents.”

The Buffalo Grove Arts Commission is also excited to announce their inaugural Halloween Yard Decorating Contest. This contest will determine who has the spookiest yard in Buffalo Grove. The contest will run through October 22nd. The commission will announce the contest rules in the fall.

If you or any of your friends have an interest in arts related activities and would be interested in serving on the Buffalo Grove Arts Commission, please fill out an application at http://www.vbg.org/915/Volunteer.
