BURR RIDGE, IL – A Burr Ridge business, a property owners association and the village government itself from a special tax district.

The money would come from a nearly 5-year-old 1 percent sales tax in the business district, which the village set up.

Keema Salon, which is in the Burr Ridge Village Center shopping complex, is seeking $41,640 to pay for improvements.

The plans include mechanical upgrades, floor refinishing, and replacement of styling stations, mirrors and chairs, according to Keema's application.

Owned by Cynthia Alex, the salon opened in the Village Center in 2008.

"Like many small businesses, we worked hard to navigate the challenges of the 2020 pandemic," Alex said in her application. "Just as businesses began recovering, the Burr Ridge Village Center construction project created additional challenges related to access, parking and traffic flow, which impacted client visits and overall business activity."

Another applicant is the Burr Ridge Park Owners Association. It is a group of private property owners that manages subdivision covenants in "downtown" Burr Ridge, which is centered on the Village Center.

The association is requesting $375,000 to pay for new retaining walls and abutments for a slightly moved bridge. The bridge in question connects the walking path around the lake, east and south of the Marriott, to the sidewalk on McClintock Drive.

For its part, the village wants $150,000 in business district money to replace the pathway between the Marriott and the Village Center.

The path has deteriorated and poses safety concerns for users, according to a village memo.

The pathway would be converted from asphalt to concrete.
