Inside Job In Burr Ridge Burglary, Insurance Payout Suggested In Court Document

BURR RIDGE, IL – The suspect in last year's burglary of a Burr Ridge house hinted to police that he got inside information about the jewelry he stole, according to a court document.

The stolen jewelry and watches were valued at $348,000, police said.

Police said the 67-year-old suspect, Jeffrey Levin, had a rap sheet dating back to 1975, listing burglaries in Cook, DuPage, and Lake counties.

Levin is accused of burglarizing a house in the 8700 block of Madison Street on May 31, 2025. It's a neighborhood of million-dollar homes.

Through a public records request, Patch received the Burr Ridge police report and published a story based on it. The report was heavily redacted.

A day later, Patch obtained a court document that appeared to provide much of the information that the police department blacked out.

'Chewed out'

According to the document, one of the occupants of the home called police, saying she got a front-door camera notification of a man leaving the house with a black bag. She was at work.

Police showed up, but found no one. Levin later told police that he was hiding near a detective who showed up.

"Somebody in your police station is going to get their ass chewed out," Levin was quoted as saying.

Surveillance video showed that Levin rammed his shoulder repeatedly into the front door, police said. It broke open after a few times.

Levin stole the jewelry from the closet in the master bedroom, police said.

'A nice little split'

A resident in the house was concerned that someone in his inner circle was involved in the burglary, according to the court document.

Levin seemed to confirm that theory.

A detective asked Levin, "You think the guy that owns the house was told that somebody was coming?"

"Yeah, now you're catching on," Levin was quoted as saying.

According to the document, Levin also said "whatever insurance is paying is a nice little split, but I can't prove that."

Levin said his informant gave him the layout of the house, according to the document. He said the informant knows the resident personally, often going to the house and the resident's business.

'Million-dollar question'

On the night of the burglary, the informant called the resident and learned the resident was at his business. So Levin said that was a good time to break in, according to the document.

The court record states that Levin also said, "I want to put a bullet in that c–ks–ker's head." The document didn't specify whether Levin was referring to the resident or the informant.

When police asked for the identity of the informant, Levin said that was the "million-dollar question."

A detective inquired whether the informant shared the resident's ethnic heritage. Levin confirmed he did, according to the document.

Burr Ridge Police Chief Marc Loftus did not respond to a message for comment on Tuesday.

In their report, police indicated they were able to identify Levin through the license plate number of the rental car he was driving the night of the burglary. It was at a Hinsdale gas station and later parked at the fire station down the street from the burglarized house, police said.

The court document was part of DuPage County prosecutors' case to a judge to keep Levin in jail until his trial. The judge granted the request.

According to the record, the stolen merchandise included a $91,500 Rolex watch, a $56,500 woman's ring, a $48,200 Rolex watch and a $39,500 Rolex watch.
