Hinsdale Township High School District 86 today announces the procedure it will follow to fill a vacancy on the Board created by the resignation of member Victor Casini. The process was discussed and finalized at the first meeting of the newly seated Board last evening.
Interested candidates must fulfill the requirements of school code and Board Policy 2:40 to be considered. Those requirements state that all candidates must be registered voters who are residents of both Illinois and the District for at least one year. Applicants should submit a letter of interest and their résumés to the Board by emailing boe@hinsdale86.org or mailing their documents to the attention of Board Recording Secretary Debra Kedrowski, 5500 S. Grant St., Hinsdale, IL 60521. The deadline for applications is Monday, May 11 at 5 p.m. The Board indicated that its goal is to make a decision at the June 1 meeting.

“First, I want to thank Victor Casini for his service to the Board,” said Board President Kay Gallo. “He approached decisions in an intelligent and thoughtful way, providing valuable input to our discussions. We wish him well.”
Ms. Gallo continued, “We are looking for a seventh individual who wants to work with the whole Board as we embark on a new era of Board governance. We encourage all of those interested to apply by the deadline so that we can move forward as quickly as possible.”
Mr. Casini submitted his resignation letter to then-Board President Dr. Richard Skoda on April 7. In the letter, Mr. Casini said the effective date of his resignation would be May 4 before the seating of the new Board or prior to that date at the request of Dr. Skoda.
When a vacancy occurs, by law the remaining Board members are required to notify the Regional Superintendent of the vacancy within five days of the effective date of resignation. The successor will be chosen by the remaining Board members and that person will fill the vacancy until the next regular school election in April 2017. If the Board is unable to agree on a candidate to appoint within 45 days after the vacancy occurs, the Regional Superintendent of schools is to fill the vacant position within 30 days.
