Building Without Permit, Check Fraud: Burr Ridge Cops
A homeowner is ordered to stop a fence project until he gets a permit, report says.
BURR RIDGE, IL — Recently, Burr Ridge police have handled cases involving a construction project without a permit, check fraud, a raccoon disturbance, road rage, a disoriented driver, a rolling domestic, loud noises and a computer scam, among other things. Here is information from the latest Burr Ridge police reports:
Building without permit
- An officer spoke with a homeowner Nov. 28 in the 16W300 block of 95th Place who did not possess a valid permit for a fence project. He was told to stop until he got the permit and display it in his window once he had it. He agreed to do so. The officer spoke with the person who complained and briefed her on the outcome. She said she was satisfied.

- A representative of King-Bruwaert House, 6101 S. County Line Road, informed police Nov. 23 that five checks mailed Oct. 22 were later fraudulently altered. An officer referred the organization to a postal inspector, who is investigating a number of similar incidents in Burr Ridge.
- A person on Brighton Place reported to police Nov. 25 fraudulent transactions on his bank account amounting to $9,500. He said none of his checks had been stolen or gone missing. He did not know where suspects could have obtained copies of his checks.
Pushing away raccoon
- An officer used a broom to push a raccoon away from a resident and his two young sons who were in a hot tub about 9 a.m. Nov. 22 in the backyard of a house in the 11600 block of Briarwood Lane. The officer recommended calling a licensed trapper to have the raccoon relocated.
Disoriented driver

- An officer spoke with a driver about 7 p.m. Nov. 24 near Plainfield and County Line roads. The driver was disoriented and had urinated on himself. He did not seem intoxicated. The officer spoke with the man's wife, who said her husband was in a heroin program and should not have been driving. His wife secured him an Uber ride. Two officers pushed the man's car out of the roadway and told him to have it removed by early the next day.
Rolling domestic
- A Burr Ridge officer assisted state police with a domestic disturbance about 4 a.m. Nov. 29 near Interstate 55 and County Line Road. A man was driving a Ford chasing after an Uber occupied by his girlfriend. The officer stopped the man after he ran a red light. State troopers took over from there.
Truck drivers questioned
- An officer saw three men at the entrance of Lyons Trucking, 16W020 79th St., about 2 a.m. Nov. 25. They said they were dropping off two semi-trucks at the business. They had keys to the semis and moved them to the side of the driveway. They did not want to provide identification and left in a 2016 Volkswagen. There were no signs of criminal activity.
Backpack found
- While searching the area for burglars, an officer found a CamelBak backpack in the middle of the street about 3:30 a.m. Nov. 24 on Ridge Farm Road. It was unclear whether it was related to burglaries in the area.
Birthday bash
- Police received a call about illegal parking about 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28 near 60th and Elm streets. A resident told officers he would have guests move their cars to a nearby school lot. The caller later told police he suspected an underage drinking party. The resident, however, said he was having a 40th birthday party and that no underage drinking was taking place. Officers saw no signs of underage drinking.
Pounding on door
- A resident in the 8000 block of Greenbriar Court informed police Nov. 25 that people pounded on her door and then ran into a house in the 7900 block of Greenbriar. An officer spoke with someone in the house in question. That person was having a party, but denied any of his guests pounded on the door. His guests were warned about trespassing.
Son in locked room
- A woman on Hillcrest Court called police Nov. 30 after a woman said she could not contact her son, who was locked in his room. An officer found her son sleeping. An odor of alcohol could be detected in the room.
Loud noises
- A person near Fawn Court and Deer Path Trail heard four or five loud pops that sounded like gunshots by a pond about 4:30 p.m. Nov. 22. Officers spoke with a number of residents on Deer Path who believed the pops were fireworks, not gunshots. The officers could not find anyone near the pond and did not hear any loud noises.
Computer scam
- A resident on Drew Avenue reported a scam Nov. 24. A suspect claimed that he or she could install UltraViewer on the resident's laptop. The resident was told that $10,000 was deposited into her bank account, instead of $1,000. The person demanded the resident wire $9,000 to Bangkok Bank. The resident did not wire the money and confirmed with her bank that she wasn't out any money.
Mysterious smoke
- A resident on Hamilton Avenue told police about 1 a.m. Nov. 30 that smoke was coming from the basement, but was unable to determine the source. Firefighters arrived and found the smoke was coming from a smoldering rug. It was caused by a cigarette butt.
Illegal burning
- A person was burning a large pile of rubbish about 10 a.m. Nov. 24 in his backyard in the 7700 block of Hamilton Avenue. He was cited on a charge of open burning.
- An officer informed a resident in the 8500 block of Heather Drive at 11 a.m. Nov. 23 about the village's open burn ordinance. The resident said he would put out his small fire, where he was burning twigs.
Rummaging through mail
- A person in a black SUV was going through mailboxes near 79th Street and Garfield Avenue about 4 a.m. Nov. 22. An officer found several pieces of mail belonging to a house in the 8100 block of Lake Ridge Drive down the street. The resident said the mailbox door is loose, and mail could have blown out.
Damage to car
- A person found damage to his driver's side mirror after he left it parked in the parking lot Nov. 30 at Loyola Center for Health, 6800 N. Frontage Road. An officer spoke with security at the center, but the screen was frozen and police were unable to identify the suspect.
Girlfriend arrested?
- A man told police Nov 26 that he thought Burr Ridge officers may have arrested his girlfriend on a warrant. He wanted to know whether she needed bail money. An officer told the man that no one was in the department's custody.
Road rage
- An officer saw two drivers yelling at each other about 10 a.m. Nov. 27 on Grant Street. The officer separated the people and told them to go back inside their cars. No crime was alleged by either party. They were sent their separate ways.
Unruly dog
- A German shepherd charged at a resident and knocked him in his legs while he was getting his mail about 10 p.m. Nov. 27 in the 15W200 block of 77th Street. He wanted the dog owner warned to keep control of the animal. The owner, who lives in the 7600 block of Drew Avenue, said he would make sure his dog did not get loose again.
