BURR RIDGE, IL – The Burr Ridge Village Board on Monday plans to vote on calling for an "immediate and sustained" ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

According to the board's meeting agenda, Mayor Gary Grasso asked for such a resolution to be voted upon. This follows two meetings in which residents have called for such a statement from the board.

The resolution condemns the massacre of innocent Israeli and U.S. citizens and others massacred during Hamas' terrorist attack on Oct. 7.

It also says domestic and international groups from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences are pushing for an end to hostilities.

The resolution has the board calling "loudly" for a ceasefire, the quick delivery of humanitarian aid to displaced Palestinians in Gaza, and the immediate release of all Israeli and U.S. hostages held by Hamas.

It requests the "prompt commencement of meaningful talks to make this troubled region safer and more secure for all habitants to live there in peace."

Burr Ridge includes a sizable Muslim community, with which Mayor Gary Grasso and other village officials have sought to maintain close ties.

Other area towns aren't being asked for a ceasefire resolution during meetings. They include Hinsdale, Darien, La Grange, Western Springs and Elmhurst.
