Burr Ridge Calls For Immediate Shutdown Of Sterigenics
The village wants a court order to shut down Sterigenics until there is proof that ethylene oxide presents no health risks.

BURR RIDGE, IL — The village of Burr Ridge has joined the village of Willowbrook and the city of Darien in requesting the Illinois Attorney General and DuPage County State's Attorney seek an emergency court order to shut down Sterigenics until there is proof that ethylene oxide presents no health risks to the communities.
The EPA recently released test results from November and December 2018. According to the EPA, results show the two sites located closest to the two Sterigenics buildings are seeing the highest ethylene oxide concentrations. Average readings at those sites are a little over 2 micrograms per cubic meter, with some readings as high as 10 and 11 micrograms per cubic meter.
According to the village website, at its Jan. 28 meeting, the village board of trustees also directed the village attorney to file a petition seeking to join the lawsuit filed by the Illinois Attorney General and the DuPage County State's Attorney.
