Burr Ridge Machine Gun Suspect Arrested: Cops

BURR RIDGE, IL – A Chicago man was found with an altered fully automatic gun last week while riding in an Uber in Burr Ridge, authorities said.

Dauveyae White, 18, was arrested on a charge of felony unlawful possession of a machine gun, police said.

About 6 a.m. Friday, Burr Ridge police were called about a suspicious silver sedan with a missing hubcap on South Frontage Road. They stopped the car, which turned out to be an Uber.

Two people were in the backseat, one of whom was White, police said.

Told he had an outstanding warrant, White became combative with officers and tried to reach for his waistband as if to retrieve something, police said. After a brief struggle, he was detained.

Officers said they discovered a loaded 9mm Glock 19X gun with one bullet in the chamber. The gun had a switch that allowed it to fire automatically, police said.

The weapon had two serial numbers, one on the slide that was different from the one on the frame, police said.

The other passenger was identified and released without any charges, pending further investigation, police said.

"Anytime an illegal firearm, especially one modified to fire automatically, is encountered, the risk to officers and the public increases exponentially," Burr Ridge Police Chief Marc Loftus said in a news release. "The actions taken in this case prevented a hazardous situation from escalating further and helped keep our community safe."
