BURR RIDGE, IL – Burr Ridge's mayor said Monday he was disappointed in the pace of a construction project at Village Center, contending it was hurting nearby restaurants.

"I do not understand why it is taking so long to complete that project," Mayor Gary Grasso said at Monday's Village Board meeting. "It's costing us significant tax money. It's disrupting significant amounts of business."

He said he has directed village staff to write to Village Center owner Ramzi Hassan to get an explanation.

Grasso did not describe the project. But a person answering the phone at Hassan's company said the project involves the development of an entertainment district and road construction.

Grasso said the project may disrupt a major charity event next month at Topaz Café and that it is not helping Hampton Social or Pella Signature restaurant, which opened six months ago.

He also said the planned opening of a nearby Mexican restaurant, Bar Poca Madre, has not happened.

"I'll be pressing (Hassan) for a schedule to finish this expeditiously," Grasso said. "I'm really disappointed in Ramzi and what he has not achieved in the Village Center. I'll continue to be all over him about that."

Patch left a phone message with Hassan on Tuesday.
