Burr Ridge Woman Killed In Crash: Police

She was bicycling when a pickup struck her at an intersection, report says.

BURR RIDGE, IL – A Burr Ridge woman who was bicycling in town last month died after a collision with a pickup truck, police said.

Police identified the victim as Susan L. Smid, 61, police said. The crash was about 4:30 p.m. June 17 at Wolf Road and 79th Street, police said.

The driver of a Dodge Ram, Tad Christensen, 56, of Burr Ridge, was cited on a charge of improperly overtaking a bicyclist going in the same direction, according to the police report.

Among the four witnesses listed in the report was Stephen C. Smid, Smid's husband.

In an email to Patch, Deputy Police Chief Marc Loftus said the investigation was still active.

According to Smid's obituary, she practiced nursing at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She later took her skills to Chicago-based Goldman Ismail Tomaselli Brennan & Baum as a nurse paralegal.

She was also said to love music, shopping and enjoying new restaurants in the area.

Patch obtained the crash report through a public records request.
