BURR RIDGE, IL – Over the last couple of years, Burr Ridge has held what it calls "in-service days" for its staff near holidays.

The eight days have been Dec. 26-29, 2023; Dec. 23, 26 and 27, 2024; and Jan. 20, 2025. The last date was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is not a village holiday.

When asked about the days recently, Village Administrator Evan Walter said in an email to a resident, "The Village uses in-service days much like school districts in that they are used to facilitate professional development and training programs for staff that would be impractical to conduct otherwise."

Twice since late May, Patch has emailed Walter, asking whether Village Hall is open during these days and for examples of the types of training that employees receive.

Walter has not responded.

However, he did answer a Patch inquiry about the reason for Village Hall's closure from 8 a.m. to noon last Wednesday.

"The Village is holding an All-Staff Meeting during this time, which will include training and other related activities that universally impact the organization," he said.
