D181 Board of Education Recognizes 21 Students as Ambassadors of Excellence

On November 10, the District 181 Board of Education recognized 21 students for their success in area competitions.

On November 10, the Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education recognized 21 students for their success in local, regional, state and national competitions.

Clarendon Hills Middle School students Ben Ognibene and Cole Heider had their artwork selected for inclusion in the Illinois Art Education Association 2014 Student Art Show. Each year, members of IAEA submit images of artwork created in their classroom. More than 700 pieces from students Kindergarten through high school were sent in to be juried for this year’s show. Ognibene and Heider’s pieces were two of only 40 chosen from among the entire state. Their artwork, submitted when they were fifth graders at Monroe and Prospect School respectively, will be part of a traveling show that includes a stop at Hinsdale Hospital.

Ava Severts and Alexandra Hughes each won a 4th place award in the 2014 National Philosophy Slam. Severts, now a seventh grader at Clarendon Hills Middle School, also earned the Robert P. Felker Award for Most Poetic Essay. Hughes is now a freshman at Hinsdale Central High School.

The last group of honorees included the top 15 runners in the West Suburban Middle School Athletic Conference (WSMSAC) cross country meets for the boys and girls races. From Clarendon Hills Middle School: Caitlin Chval, Anna Glowniak, Henry Jonas, Thomas Kusak, Audrey LaValle, Steven Rakos, and McKenna Revord. From Hinsdale Middle School: Kate Abdo, Sara Draddy, Lucy Fischer, Kendall Griffin, Alec Hill, Danny Hofmann, Brandon James, Frankie Morrissey, Haley Paulson, and Isabella Pisani.
