Dog Left Out In Cold in Burr Ridge: Police

A cockapoo named Oliver got stuck in a fence and his barking alerted a neighbor, police say.

BURR RIDGE, IL — A dog that got stuck in a fence was left outside in 16-degree weather the night of Jan. 16 at a Burr Ridge house, prompting a neighbor to call police, according to an officer's report. The white cockapoo named Oliver had been barking for about an hour on Glenn Drive, but no one was home.

Because of the weather, the officer took the dog into protective custody and left a placard at the house about the situation, the report said. While heading to a veterinarian, the officer learned the owners had returned home. They were apologetic and said they normally stay outside with their dog, police said. Because of a time constraint, the report said, the owners let out the dog and got ready for church, then forgot to let the dog back in.

The officer reported the dog was in good health and happy to see the owners. He also said the house was clean and dog food was visible. The owners were warned about animal cruelty laws, the report said.
