Dr. Seuss Takes Over Pleasantdale Elementary School for Read Across America Day

District 107 Celebrates NEA's Read Across America Day

Each year, March 2 marks Read Across America Day, a public awareness program created by the National Education Association (NEA), to promote the importance of reading. The celebration corresponds with the birthday of beloved children’s book author, Theodor Geisel, better known to parents and kids everywhere as “Dr. Seuss”. Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904. To celebrate the 112th birthday of Dr. Seuss, Pleasantdale Elementary School in La Grange celebrated by taking time to read, participate in Dr. Seuss-themed games and activities and some staff even dressed in wacky shirts celebrating the good doctor’s work.

NEA's Read Across America reminds parents of the crucial role they play in their children’s education. By participating in Read Across America Day, the initiative brought a nation of readers together under one hat, the red and white stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat, for a flurry of reading excitement.
