Eight Hinsdale South Students Named National Merit Finalists

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships.

Eight Hinsdale South High School students were named National Merit Finalists. District 86 congratulates the following seniors for achieving this honor: Arun Abraham, Lois Anderson, Mika Deshmukh, Joseph Eilbert, Kyle Lee, Samantha Lee, Andrea Papari and Jason Yang.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)—a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

Three types of scholarships are awarded to winners through the program: a $2,500 one-time National Merit Scholarship, corporate-sponsored scholarships and college-sponsored scholarships. Approximately 8,000 National Merit Scholarship winners are expected to be chosen from the more than 15,000 finalists nationwide. Winners will be notified beginning this month through mid-June. Last year three Hinsdale South students qualified as finalists.
