Falcons 93 NFC Gold Defeats Downers Grove Panthers, 12 to 0

The Falcons 93 NFC Gold team earned their tenth victory of the season, defeating Downers Grove Panthers 12-0. They advanced to the 2014 BGYFL Championship game to be played on November 9th.

Offensively, Falcons had a great showing. Sean Allison, Billy O’Malley, Tommy Skokna and Steven Schnur were grinding out the yardage throughout the game. Joey Antonietti rushed for a touchdown late in the first half. In the second half, the running backs advanced the Falcons downfield with space created by offensive linemen Calum Kelly, J.P. Sporleder and Eliot Harris, but remained scoreless.

Defense made the game for the Falcons. Steven Schnurr, A.J. Panos, Mason Shaker, Carter Lyons and Jack Levine held the Panthers away from the end zone with each possession. Two big defensive plays late in the first half stopped the Panthers. Schnur and Shaker, with the help of defensive backs, Tommy Skokna and Lynden McCarroll made the significant third down stop. And Antonietti’s interception closed out the first half with the Falcons leading, 6-0.

Downers Grove’s last possession commenced with 4 minutes remaining. David Laughter punted the ball to the Panthers and the defense turned it up. Mikey Hinchman, Lynden McCarroll, Zach Hayes and Carter Lyons stopped the run, twice for lost yardage. The Panthers went for the pass and Vinny Galassi intercepted it for the pick 6.
