Footsteps Scared Burr Ridge Family: Police

Residents took action after they returned to hear what they thought were footsteps. The police had a theory.

BURR RIDGE, IL — A Burr Ridge family returned home last Sunday night, seeing their rear patio door open and hearing footsteps coming from the upstairs, police said. One of the family members sprayed pepper spray in the dining room to test it out, according to a report.

The family called police, and three officers showed up at the house, which is in the 8600 block of Crest Court. The officers said they saw no footprints in the snow near the patio door. They conducted a partial search of the house and heard the upstairs dryer running, making a sound similar to footsteps, police said.

The officers left the house because of the lingering effects of the pepper spray. Pleasantview firefighters showed up to check on the children and air out the house, police said. No one was reported as needing medical assistance.
