Former NBA Player to Share Journey to Sobriety at Hinsdale Central

Chris Herren will speak Feb. 23, open to the public, and Feb. 24 for Hinsdale Central High School students.

Former NBA player Chris Herren is scheduled to make two appearances at Hinsdale Central High School to speak about his professional basketball career, his history of substance abuse and his journey to sobriety.

Herren will speak Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at an event open to the public and held in the Hinsdale Central High School Gymnasium. Register online to attend this event. Herren’s second speech is for Hinsdale Central students, scheduled for Feb. 24 .

Herren played for the Denver Nuggets from 1999 to 2000 and for the Boston Celtics from 2000 to 2001. He has been drug free and alcohol free since Aug. 1, 2008, according to his profile on Hoop Dreams.

His speeches at Hinsdale Central will include the subjects of drunk driving, gateway drugs, peer pressure, bullying and cutting, according to the event flyer.
