More than five million people in the U.S. are currently suffering from Alzheimer's, which is the sixth-leading cause of death in this country.

"We need people to understand that memory problems aren't necessarily just a part of getting older and to make sure a physician evaluates for a potential medical reason," Dr. Rodriguez Alzate said. "It's important that people at risk for dementia understand the disease and can start having serious conversations with their loved ones about future wishes."

Dr. Rodriguez Alzate is board certified in psychiatry and specializes in geriatric psychiatry.
