Hinsdale Central Announces National Merit Finalists

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships.

Twenty Hinsdale Central High School students were named National Merit Finalists. District 86 congratulates the following seniors for achieving this honor: Riyah Basha, Betty Chang, Neil Chen, Steven Chun, Camila Horowicz, Trevor Huang, Srinivas Kaza, Satyajit Krishnan, Sophia Liebert, Madeleine Lofchy, Maximilian Maydanchik, Benita Ning, Priya Pillai, Stephanie Sinwell, Gianna Spiega, Sanjana Srinivasan, Saena Syed, Brandon Weller, Amanda Wilson and Zachary Wong.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)—a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.

Three types of scholarships are awarded to winners through the program: a $2,500 one-time National Merit Scholarship, corporate-sponsored scholarships and college-sponsored scholarships. Approximately 8,000 National Merit Scholarship winners are expected to be chosen from the more than 15,000 finalists nationwide. Winners will be notified beginning this month through mid-June.
