“The Illinois state tournament is really tough, I compare it to the NCAA tournament,” said Coach Jason Hayes. “There’s three weigh-ins, three full days of wrestling and a wrestle back. You have to have your A game for every match. You need not only physical toughness but mental toughness and our kids showed that at the state championship.”
Coach Hayes continued, “Juwan lost the first match but came back to win four in a row. It just goes to show the pride, heart and desire not to give up. Matt had a great tournament, winning against other wrestlers whom had lost matches to earlier in the season. Our whole team improved from the beginning of the year to the end, it was a really positive season.”
