Hinsdale South Spring Sports Honor Roll is in
Patch notes the top performances of Hornets athletes during the recently concluded season.
Just as schools are releasing their spring semester academic honor rolls, Patch has released its honor roll for the recently concluded 2011 spring sports season at Hinsdale South—a campaign that turned out to be full of notable performances.
Here it is (in alphabetical order):
Jackie Belmonte and Meagan McPherson, girls soccer — McPherson and Belmonte, both seniors, were the offensive catalysts behind Hinsdale South’s (12-9) girls soccer team that advanced to the regional championship game. McPherson will be playing at Bethel College this fall while Belmonte will play collegiately at St. Francis.

Eric Damon, boys volleyball—The Hornets’ senior setter was a model of consistency throughout the season. He registered 24 assists in Hinsdale South’s regional semifinal loss to Downers North, and had 24 assists when the Hornets defeated Montini in the regional opener. Hinsdale South’s regular season-ending tournament saw him pile up 80 assists, and on Senior Night, he had 23 assists as the Hornets (16-19 in 2011) knocked off Argo.
Brittany DeClouette and Anjali Pal, badminton—Like their teammate, Andrea McNally (below), this Hinsdale South doubles team advanced to the consolation quarterfinals of the state tourney. DeClouette and Pal advanced to the second round, were defeated in the third round, and won their third and fourth round consolation matches.

Tyler Langosch, baseball—The senior completed his third year as a pitcher for the Hornets. Hinsdale South’s ace finished with a 5-3 record, and was 4-0 at one point. Langosch also was a clutch hitter for the Hornets, who doubled their victory total from 2010 this year, finishing 18-15 overall and placing second in the West Suburban Conference Gold Division—ahead of a more-publicized Downers South squad.
Riley Maher, boys gymnastics—Maher was the only Hornet who qualified for state in two events this season. He was an at-large qualifier in the floor exercise and vault. At state, the junior competed in the preliminary rounds but didn’t advance to the finals.
Andrea McNally, badminton—McNally, a junior, won her first three matches at the state tournament and ended up reaching the consolation quarterfinals. During the regular season, the team’s No. 1 singles player placed second overall at three different invitationals: Naperville Central, Schaumburg and Lockport. McNally also plays basketball for the Hornets.
Emmanuel Morris, baseball—Morris hit over .370 starting as a freshman for the Hornets’ varsity, but was hampered by injuries throughout most of his sophomore year. However, the junior infielder and pitcher bounced back nicely this season. He regularly batted third in the lineup and was one of the Hornets’ most productive hitters and RBI men.
Amy Narotsky, softball—Narotsky completed a four-year varsity career by helping to lead the Hornets to second place in the West Suburban Gold with a 9-3 record. Hinsdale South’s ace pitcher picked up the win in the team’s 7-2 triumph over eventual WSG champion on May 11. The Hornets were 18-15 overall in 2011.
Uzo Okoro, girls track—Hinsdale South’s junior star rolled double sixes at this spring’s Class 3A state meet, placing sixth in both the triple jump (an event in which she’s qualified each of the past two years) and the long jump. Okoro, also a starter on the girls basketball team, leaped 37 feet, 5 ¼ inches in the triple jump, and went 17-11 ¾ in the long jump. Both performances earned her all-state medals.
Sarah Warren, girls track—Warren set a new school record in the 400-meter run record during the indoor season (1:00.29), qualified for state outdoors by running a 59.18 at sectionals. Warren, a freshman, is quite comfortable lacing up a pair of ice skates and zipping around a speed-skating track, too. She’s won several competitions and was invited to a USA Speedskating camp last year.
