Hinsdale Township High School District 86 reported that Hinsdale South High School unveiled its new weight after a two-year effort to replace the outdated facility. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held last evening. Many of those who helped make the transformation possible were in attendance, including John Yurchak, president of the Hinsdale South Athletic Club.

“This is a real improvement for the entire school, a win-win,” said Mr. Yurchak happily. “It’s not just for the athletes but for all the students in physical education classes and staff who use this room. I can’t thank everyone enough. We are so grateful to all the parents, athletic club members and administration that have supported us and worked so hard to help make this happen.”

Hinsdale South Principal Stephanie Palmer echoed Mr. Yurchak’s sentiments.

“The Weight Room was a wonderful example of partnering with our Hinsdale South Athletic Club parents to support a renovation project,” said Ms. Palmer. “The refreshed space conveys a new energy and Hornet pride, serving all of our students and many of our staff every day. I also want to thank the Board for their support in this endeavor. The students are thrilled with the new space.”

Hinsdale South Athletic Director Kim Maloney said that with more equipment, now the room can accommodate larger numbers of students at one time, making it much easier for everyone to take advantage of the new offerings.

“We’ve gone from two power lift stations to 13, we added two more weight racks and complete dip stations for arm and core work,” said Ms. Maloney. “It’s really amazing and the best part is, we even put in a new stereo system, so the kids can listen to music that motivates them as they work out.”

Students have been trying out the weight room for the past two weeks.

Paul Hoel, the Hinsdale South baseball coach and department chair for PE and health, said that when he talks to students about the weight room, they are very excited and thankful for it.

“We now have one of the most functional and well equipped high school weight rooms in the area if not the state,” declared Coach Hoel. “Our students are very grateful for the new flooring, fresh paint and new equipment. We wish to thank the athletic club for making this vision come true. There was a lot of hard work by a number of people and it is truly appreciated.
