Hinsdale South's Special Olympics Athletes Medal at Summer Games

Jorge Huerta won the pentathlon and took first place overall.

Hinsdale Township High School District 86 today congratulated the Hinsdale South High School and Transition Center Special Olympics athletes for their accomplishments at the 2015 Summer Games in swimming and track and field events.

In all, 12 athletes from Hinsdale South and the Transition Center qualified to attend the Summer Games for track and field competition. Of the 12 that qualified, seven athletes attended and competed.

“Each athlete did their best and it shows by the number of medals that we brought home,” said Special Olympics Coach Kathy Craig. “The athletes had a great weekend at Illinois State University; watching the opening ceremonies, swimming at the water park, going out to eat and making lots of new friends.”

For swimming, Jon Hlavacek competed at Illinois Wesleyan in the state swimming competition on Friday with Coach Kraig Conyer.
